And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. ~Mark 4
We were watching God of Wonders (it is streaming on Netflix) as a family yesterday. What a beautiful presentation. I loved the discussions about intelligent design, the treasures of the snow, the marvel of metamorphosis.
How one can look at the intricacies of this world, this universe, the human body, the structure of DNA, and conclude it originated by chance I cannot comprehend.
In one segment of the presentation, plant life was discussed. One of the scientists being interviewed was simply asking, “How does a seed know that the root goes down, and the stem goes up? How does it calculate the perfect warmth, moisture, environment in which to sprout?”
Because the Creator of the universe whispered in its tiny plant “ear”…”This is how you know. Listen to Me.”
How do birds know how and when to migrate? How do they know where to go? How can fragile butterflies traverse the globe, thousands of miles? How do they go from plodding caterpillar, to a “soup” filled chrysalis, to delicately flitting splendor? How is it that there are no duplicate snowflakes? How can thousands of various flower species use the same soil, water, and light…and yet bloom in such gorgeous diversity, each with its own signature fragrance?
It did not begin with a “bang”. Things that go “bang” result in chaos, not order. I have a 13 year old son…believe me, I know! 😉
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. ~Hebrews 11:3
Framed. Deliberately designed. I have friends who are architects, friends who are carpenters. There is nothing haphazard about their craft.
Such attention to detail requires a creative mind. Our 7 year old daughter turned to me during this video and asked if God did all of this, or if Jesus was there too. What about the Holy Spirit? I told her they were all there together. Her eyes got so big, with an understanding look, as if to say, “Well, that makes sense…that explains it all!”
When we accept divine creative genius as the only answer for the universe, by faith (and let’s face it…any other “theory” is accepted by faith as well…but we have concrete evidence in the Word of God, from the only One who was present (seven times in the creation account in Genesis, the words “And God saw” occur… He was the only Eyewitness!) back when everything was “without form and void”), it puts everything else into perspective.
I walk at night beneath majestic skies
And know behind them is a God all-wise,
Who fixed all stars, each in its lonely place,
And wrapped them in a darkened robe of space.
O mighty God, how wonderful art Thou
To love the world while heav’ns before Thee bow.
I fail to comprehend it all some how.
O mighty God, how wonderful art Thou.
I see the moon, the stars in distant space,
And think of how the God of matchless grace
Is coming in the clouds to claim His own –
Such wonders that on earth cannot be known.
I scan the heav’ns with rapture in my soul
And wonder how the God Who made the whole
Could ever fix His thoughts on such as I
And give His Son upon the cross to die.
