Trust and Sleep

Now that you are all relaxed from the “Fainting Fits” post, it is time to move on to (*yawn*) some real rest.

I was in need of a personal 1 Kings 19 experience a couple weeks ago.  God encapsulated it for me in the following passages, nicely grouped together for me in my daily reading from “Daily Light on the Daily Path“…a favorite resource of missionary Amy Carmichael.  Perhaps this is what you need today as well?  These verses are from the ESV, but can easily found in KJV various places online.  Lay your head down on the soft pillow of God’s faithful promises.

Blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.

No distrust made [Abraham] waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.-The men of Judah prevailed, because they relied on the Lord, the God of their fathers.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea.-It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.-The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!

In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

You will not fear the terror of the night. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge.-“As a hen gathers her brood under her wings.”-He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand.

Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings!-Even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.

He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?-You are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.-“I will trust, and will not be afraid.”
